As most of you are aware, on Saturday, November 16, 2019, the Hockey Canada membership ratified the Board of Directors' decision to change the names of the hockey age divisions (as they will appear in the rule book and in the HCR). The age divisions will become U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U18, impacting all minor hockey programs under the Hockey Canada umbrella. The change will come into effect for the 2020 - 2021 season.

Important Note: Hockey Manitoba does not have any plans to change the name of the Junior categories and divisions (i.e. Junior to U21).

Despite the cancellation of the 2019 - 2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic and with some uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2020 - 2021 season, Hockey Manitoba would like to take this opportunity to remind all minor hockey associations that the new age division names should be in place in advance of the 2020 - 2021 season.

This means that all minor hockey associations must update all of their communication materials preferably by Monday, June 1, 2020 (i.e. website, advertisements, reports, signage, flyers, internal/external email, printed registration materials, forms, policies, online registration related text, policies/manuals, education materials, etc.).

It is important to note that the age division name changes apply to all minor hockey associations in Manitoba which means that it is mandatory for all MHAs to ensure all written communication materials are updated accordingly prior to the start of the 2020 - 2021 season.
